ELECTRICAL PROGRAMME: CORAL ALLEN HENDERSON
Coral was on a Level 2 Electrical study programme at Leicester College, when she took part in a 4 week Erasmus Plus work placement in Lebrija.
“In my placement, I gained experience installing air con, underfloor heating, solar panels and electrics. The experience has made me more confident and independent.
When I took up Electrical at Leicester College, I wasn’t sure whether it was what I wanted to do. Spending time in Spain made me realise I do want to carry on working in electrics.
Since coming back I have started an apprenticeship. I included the placement in Spain on my CV and talked about it loads in my interview. My boss was really impressed about what a brilliant opportunity it had been and the experience I had gained”.
Painting and Decorating: Alanis Thomas
Alanis undertook a 4 week Erasmus Plus work placement in Seville, whilst completing her Level 3 Painting and Decorating programme at Leicester City College.
“The main highlight of the trip for me was actually the work itself, as a painter and decorator in a Spanish workshop. I was able to develop and improve new techniques there, with different brushes, paints and styles.
Thanks to the placement in Seville, I stood out in my interview for a full time maintenance operator apprenticeship at the local council, where I am working today!
I have even acted as an ambassador for this programme as it was a massive confidence booster for me, and a once in a lifetime experience”!Read more...

“My placement was at Compelson Labs. The main tasks revolved around testing early builds of the latest version of Compelson’s software before they were released for any bugs or issues, and to ensure everything in the program was working as intended.
It was great to explore Prague in my free time because no matter what time of day it was, there was always something happening within the city.
My collaborative skills have definitely improved in leaps and bounds by being placed into a team oriented environment within the company. Along with this, the experience will allow me to stand out from the crowd when applying for universities or apprenticeships in the future”.Read more...

“The placement gave me the chance to practice my skills in a new working environment.
It was a great learning experience to see how things worked in another country, as the spa set up was really different. The staff really trusted us; I hasn’t expected to be involved in giving treatments, and it has really built my confidence. I have learnt to keep calm and professional and be flexible in the way I work.
The time away gave me a chance to think about what I want to do next. I now plan to work part time in a spa and part time on my own business, and I feel confident to take this forward.”Read more...
